What To Expect When You Get Dentures | The Dacula Dentist

No one really looks forward to getting dentures. Most of us would prefer our natural teeth, but having proper expectations can make the transition easier. Here are a few things you can expect when you get your new dentures…

YOU FEEL DIFFERENT: It’s common to feel off or different after you get dentures. You're mouth simply doesn’t feel the same to you. Soreness, excessive saliva and trouble swallowing may occur. This is normal and will probably dissipate relatively quickly.  If these problems persist without improvement, you should see your dentist for follow up care.

SHYING AWAY FROM SOCIAL INTERACTIONS: When you initially get your dentures, you may feel that they don’t look natural or that people will stare at them.  You may not want to converse up close or smile as a result. The best way to deal with this is acknowledge how you feel and be patient with yourself. Your confidence will likely return gradually and you will feel great about showing off your new dentures and beautiful smile.

EATING BECOMES DIFFICULT: Food may be more difficult to chew and even taste different to you.  Your brain can become quite distracted by your new dentures and not process the full flavors your taste buds are experiencing. This should go away pretty quickly.  If you are having trouble chewing your food, try cutting it into smaller pieces and/or eating softer foods for a while.

Although your new dentures may take some getting used to, they can greatly improve your appearance and quality of life. If you are in the Gwinnett area and are in need of dentures, call us today to schedule a complimentary consultation. Learn more about our denture services

Bonus Benefits Of Dental Exams | The Dacula Dentist

Most everyone knows that dental exams are critical  to good oral health. Dental exams can reveal serious issues, including infections, tooth decay and gum disease.  The benefits of dental exams, don’t stop at our mouths though.  Many serious illnesses can be exposed during dental exams.

Such conditions as diabetes, cancer and heart disease can exhibit symptoms that may be spotted during a dental exam. The earlier you can diagnose and treat medical illnesses, the better. Many oral problems provide signs of more serious medical issues.  Your body gives you warnings for disease and medical conditions in many different ways and oral problems are often one of them.

It’s important to discuss with your dentist how any oral health problems you are having may be related to more serious medical conditions.  Your dentist may not volunteer this information, so ask them.  Understanding your dental health and how it relates to your overall physical health is important.  At our office we place significant emphasis on patient education and our patients' health.  If you are looking for a dentist in the Gwinnett area, call us today to schedule an appointment. We want to be your dentist!

Maintaining Healthy Gums | The Dacula Dentist

Healthy gums are the cornerstone to healthy teeth and good oral health.  Preventing inflammation and disease in your gums is of paramount importance.  There are many things you can do to proactively work at keeping your gums healthy. Here are just a few...

EATING THE RIGHT FOODS. Some foods and vitamins have been linked to healthy gum tissue.  Taking in the proper amount of Vitamin C daily as well as eating foods that provide nutrients and ward off inflammation are important. Incorporate such foods as raisins, oranges, sweet potatoes and fresh vegetables into your diet plan.  You may also want to speak to your doctor about taking CoQ10 supplements. They have been shown to be beneficial for promoting dental and gum  health as well.

FLOSS AND BRUSH DAILY. Yes, it seems obvious, but the importance of flossing everyday and brushing at least twice a day cannot be stressed enough. This is the foundation of good oral health.  Be sure to have your teeth professionally cleaned twice a year as well.

AVOID HARMFUL HABITS. Eating sugary foods, drinking sodas and ingesting foods that promote bad bacteria growth can wreak havoc on the health of your gums.  Using tobacco products are also harmful to your gums, not to mention the rest of your body too.  Making healthy lifestyle changes will not only impact your gums, but likely improve your overall well-being and quality of life.

Healthy gums are critical to having healthy teeth that can last you a lifetime. We stress the importance of dental health and educate our patients on proper oral care. If you have questions on ensuring that your gums are healthy or need a dental exam, call us today to schedule your appointment.

Are Our Mouths In A Permanent State Of Disease? | The Dacula Dentist

No one wants any part of their body, especially their mouth, to be in a permanent state of disease. But according to Medical News Today, that just may be the case.  A dental study in Nature Genetics uncovered that teeth and oral disease have changed dramatically since prehistoric times.  The sharp decrease in diverse oral bacteria in modernized industrial humans in comparison to early man is stunning. According to these researchers, this has left us in a virtually perpetual state of oral disease.

There have been sweeping changes in the way we live and what we eat and drink since the Stone Ages, which have led to negative changes in our oral bacteria.  Changes and reductions in bodily bacteria can significantly impact our health and susceptibility to diseases, this fact also applies to our oral health.

Comparing extracted DNA from various stages of evolution dating back to prehistoric times allowed researchers to see a progressive denigration of the amounts and types of helpful oral bacteria humans have in their mouths.  Understanding this  more fully may lead to refining methods for improving our overall dental health in the future by learning from our past.

Dental health is of great importance. We promote dental health as well as patient education in our dental office.  If you are in need of a dentist in Gwinnett, call us today. We want to be your dentist!

Kurz Dentistry 2013 Patient Reviews | The Dacula Dentist

Here is a small sample of some of our recent patient reviews...

“I had not been to see Dr. Kurz for two years. I was warmly welcomed back by both her and her staff. Tatyana took extra care when she cleaned my teeth on Wednesday, recommending therapies for my gingivitis. On Thursday, I received one crown and one filling from Dr. Kurz with special assistance from Kristine, who expertly detailed the whole process as it happened. Both Wednesday and Thursday, Chita took care of my insurance needs with a big smile. So glad I came back to Dr. Kurz and her staff.”
~ John S., Dacula

“ Tatayana was who I met with. She very nice and knowledgeable.  Everyone I met, from the office manager to Dr. Kurz was polite and understanding and I will be sending the rest of my family there for dental care.”
~Michael K., Dacula

“Professional and thorough yet make you feel very comfortable, as though you are their only patient. All options of care are offered and discussed. No pressure. Recommend Dr Kurz.”
~Isabelle C., Hoschton
