What To Expect When You Get Dentures | The Dacula Dentist

No one really looks forward to getting dentures. Most of us would prefer our natural teeth, but having proper expectations can make the transition easier. Here are a few things you can expect when you get your new dentures…

YOU FEEL DIFFERENT: It’s common to feel off or different after you get dentures. You're mouth simply doesn’t feel the same to you. Soreness, excessive saliva and trouble swallowing may occur. This is normal and will probably dissipate relatively quickly.  If these problems persist without improvement, you should see your dentist for follow up care.

SHYING AWAY FROM SOCIAL INTERACTIONS: When you initially get your dentures, you may feel that they don’t look natural or that people will stare at them.  You may not want to converse up close or smile as a result. The best way to deal with this is acknowledge how you feel and be patient with yourself. Your confidence will likely return gradually and you will feel great about showing off your new dentures and beautiful smile.

EATING BECOMES DIFFICULT: Food may be more difficult to chew and even taste different to you.  Your brain can become quite distracted by your new dentures and not process the full flavors your taste buds are experiencing. This should go away pretty quickly.  If you are having trouble chewing your food, try cutting it into smaller pieces and/or eating softer foods for a while.

Although your new dentures may take some getting used to, they can greatly improve your appearance and quality of life. If you are in the Gwinnett area and are in need of dentures, call us today to schedule a complimentary consultation. Learn more about our denture services
